Oteo, by Gerard Uzcátegui, also seems to summon Lacanian teachings: not only the memory of the reflection in the other, as the first notion of himself, but our subjectivity always activating in intersubjectivity – the looking at it, that is looking at oneself – they are shown to us from a video that we glimpsed through the crack of the rustic door for no apparent reason in the course of the exhibition. They are peasants, an hour from Mérida (and centuries from the lens that captures them) those with the intense glances held in front of the voyeuristic eye that scrutinizes them – scrutinizes himself – in their daily lives.
